CONTACT USIn collaboration with Bwyd Da Bangor, we produced a 360-degree virtual tour, an immersive digital asset designed to showcase their community café and food hub. The primary objective of the project was to create a key digital outreach tool, providing virtual access to their facility for a diverse audience including potential service users, volunteers, and stakeholders, thereby communicating the welcoming nature and operational scope of their space.
The scope of the project was precisely defined, comprising the capture of three distinct 360-degree panoramic scenes from key viewpoints within their Bangor facility. The project brief specified the use of the Ricoh Theta Z1 camera to produce high-dynamic-range (HDR) images, ensuring a high-fidelity representation of the interior that accurately captures the ambient lighting and welcoming atmosphere of the café for the final virtual tour.
Bwyd Da Bangor is a community benefit society situated in Bangor, North Wales, operating as a social enterprise in the form of a café and community food hub. The organisation's core mission is to address the interconnected issues of food waste, food poverty, and social isolation through a sustainable and community-focused model. It positions itself as a practical and proactive solution within the local ecosystem, providing direct support to individuals and families facing economic hardship while simultaneously tackling environmental concerns.
The operational model of Bwyd Da Bangor is centred on the interception and transformation of surplus food—that would otherwise be destined for landfill—from supermarkets and local suppliers. This produce forms the basis of the meals served in their café, which operates on a 'pay as you feel' basis. This innovative, non-transactional framework is fundamental to the organisation's ethos, as it removes financial barriers and ensures that everyone, regardless of their economic situation, has access to nutritious food in a dignified and inclusive setting.
Consequently, Bwyd Da Bangor functions as more than simply a food provider; it is a vital community hub that actively mitigates social isolation by offering a welcoming space for all residents. The organisation also provides significant opportunities for volunteering and skills training, creating pathways for individuals to build confidence, gain experience, and re-engage with the community. By creating value from surplus and reinvesting it directly into the local population, Bwyd Da Bangor exemplifies a successful circular economy model, delivering a sustainable and dignified solution to pressing local social and environmental challenges.
This project involved the production of a 360 virtual tour for Bwyd Da in Bangor, designed to provide an immersive digital representation of their community café and food hub. The tour comprises three distinct panoramic scenes, captured as high-resolution HDR (High Dynamic Range) images using the Ricoh Theta Z1 360-degree camera to accurately represent the lighting and atmosphere of the interior space.
The post-production workflow began in Adobe Lightroom, where the raw panoramic images were processed for initial colour grading and exposure balancing. This step was crucial for ensuring a consistent visual tone and optimising the dynamic range across all three scenes. Subsequently, the images were brought into Adobe Photoshop for detailed digital refinement, a process which involved meticulous nadir patching to remove the tripod footprint and the careful removal of any minor environmental imperfections to produce a clean and seamless final composite for the tour.
